I recently attended a seminar sponsored by corporate counsel for the outside counsel who work for the major United States corporations. The corporations represented were a good cross-section of American business, and such clients often have complex legal problems. The attorneys in attendance represented a number of major law firms.
The seminar materials included the following advice to the outside counsel: "If you are not a creative problem solver, find a client who lets you bill with impunity - and keep it a secret." Amazingly, this was presented seriously, not as a joke.
In other words, attorneys now consciously believe:
- They do not need to be "creative problem solvers";
- They should seek clients who let them "bill with impunity"; and
- They should keep their lack of creativity and over-billing "secret".
The purpose of King Law Corporation is to, in a gentle manner:
- Help corporations make sure that their counsel (1) "are creative problem solvers", who provide them promptly with a quality legal product; (2) do not "bill with impunity", and (3) fulfill their fiduciary duties of full disclosure and keep no "secrets" from the client; and
- Help outside counsel who perform quality work for a reasonable fee to be recognized as such by their clients and compensated accordingly.
